Voice typing not working?
The fixes, in order
Win+H opens nothing, the panel appears but won't listen, or you're staring at "Speech services are managed by your organization." These are the documented causes, cheapest fix first — based on Microsoft's own troubleshooting guide and what actually resolves the forum threads.
1. Turn on online speech recognition
Settings → Privacy & security → Speech → Online speech recognition: On. Voice typing depends on Microsoft's online speech service; with this off, Win+H silently fails even though your microphone works everywhere else. This is the single most common cause.
2. Check the microphone
Settings → System → Sound → Input. Confirm the right microphone is selected and the level bar moves when you speak. Then Privacy & security → Microphone: microphone access on, and "Let desktop apps access your microphone" on. A headset that registered as the wrong device explains a lot of dead sessions.
3. Check the input language
Voice typing supports a specific language list; an unsupported keyboard language makes Win+H shrug. Press Win + Spacebar to switch input languages and retry with one Microsoft supports.
4. "Managed by your organization"
A group policy disabling online speech recognition — standard on corporate machines, and reported even on personal Home-edition PCs after updates. On a work device this is IT's call (and often deliberate: it stops audio leaving the machine). On your own PC, the policy lives under speech-privacy group policy / registry settings; community fixes exist but you're editing policy state — proceed carefully and reboot after.
5. Update and reboot the boring things
Windows Update (speech runtime fixes ship in cumulative updates), audio driver via Device Manager, then a real reboot. Several Q&A threads resolve exactly here after a recent update reset the speech components.
6. Some of it isn't broken — it's designed
Cutting off after a few seconds of silence: by design. Not working in a clipboard-blocked RDP/Citrix session: by policy. Requiring internet on non-Copilot+ machines: by architecture. No settings fix exists for these — they're the tool's shape, not a malfunction.
7. Nothing types into an admin window
If dictation works everywhere except one app, check whether that app is running as administrator. Windows blocks a normal-privilege program from sending input to an elevated window — it's a security boundary called UIPI, and it applies to every dictation tool, Blabb included. There's no setting that defeats it. The workarounds are to run the target app without elevation, or to dictate into an ordinary window and paste across.
If you're on fix #4 or #6, the problem isn't you.
Blabb doesn't use the online speech service, so none of the above applies: recognition runs on your PC, records through your pauses, and types into the locked-down sessions where Win+H is blocked by design — everywhere except an elevated administrator window, which Windows closes off to every app.
