Cleanup changed something it should not have

Cleanup styles are meant to rewrite. Here is how to pick one that rewrites less, and what to do when it goes further than you wanted.

Start with the thing that catches most people out: a cleanup style is supposed to rewrite. Ask for Professional and you have asked for polished, formal wording, which means different words from the ones you said. That is not a fault — it is the setting doing its job.

So the fix is nearly always the style, not a bug report.

The ladder, lightest first#

Original is the one to know about. It runs no cleanup model at all, so no sentence of yours is ever reworded. It is not quite "nothing is touched", though: the words you taught Blabb in Saved words are still applied, and if you have a Medical or Legal vocabulary switched on it still corrects specialist terms — in fact Original is the only style where that vocabulary rewrites the text directly rather than handing suggestions to the cleanup model. It is also the fastest option, because there is nothing for it to wait on. It is the default.

Fix typos is the next step up and the usual choice for someone who wants tidy text and no rewriting.

Tip

If it is only one application where the rewriting bothers you — a code editor, a chat window — turn on Auto-select per app. It picks a light cleanup style based on the application you are dictating into, and it never chooses a tone-changing style for you. See Auto-select per app.

Match the style to the writing, not to your taste#

The most reliable fix is not a setting — it is using different styles for different work.

A rewriting style is welcome in an email you were going to reword anyway. It is the wrong tool for anything where the exact words carry the weight: a quotation, a clinical note, a figure, a name, a sentence someone else will rely on. For that work, Original and Fix typos exist, and there is no shame in living on them permanently.

If you switch between both kinds of writing all day, Auto-select per app can make that switch for you — and it only ever chooses the light styles, never a tone-changing one.

Check what actually happened#

Guessing at what cleanup did is a waste of your time when the app can show you.

Open History, find the dictation, and look at What changed — the difference between Original words (the raw transcription) and Final text (what was typed). It takes a few seconds and it tells you whether cleanup rewrote you or the speech model misheard you in the first place, which is a different problem entirely.

Reporting AI output you object to#

Wrong is one thing. Output you object to — offensive, or content you did not ask for — is another, and Blabb has a reporting route for it.

Report AI content is reachable from three places on purpose:

the toolbar on any history entry
the footer of the Settings window
Settings → About

The report goes to us by email, and you choose what it says.
